KCMC Breaks Ground on Elgin Medical Facility
Kershaw County Celebrates Grand Opening of Wateree Executive Park
ELGIN, SC – August 27, 2008 – Kershaw County Medical Center and Kershaw County officials celebrated today the groundbreaking of the hospital’s new facility in Elgin. In addition, the County celebrated the grand opening of the Wateree Executive Park in which the medical facility is located.
Construction is underway for the Elgin Medical Complex which will be 42,000 square feet. When completed, the facility will include the following services: urgent care services including nine treatment rooms; imaging services including CT, open MRI, digital mammography, X-ray, ultrasound, and bone density services; cardiology services including nuclear medicine, stress testing, and ultrasound; and laboratory services. Completion of the facility is slated for May 2009.
"This outpatient diagnostic center will be the first of a number of medical facilities and services offered at this site. This is the beginning of a closer relationship with the citizens in the Elgin area and we are looking forward to bringing health care services closer to where they live," said Donnie Weeks, Kershaw County Medical Center President & CEO.
Kershaw County officials are also celebrating the opening of the Wateree Executive Park in which KCMC is the first tenant. This 60-acre Class A office park has been in the works since the County purchased the property in 2005. The park offers ten lots ranging in size from one acre to ten acres with easy access to Interstate 20. This location also allows companies locating in the park to enjoy access to the growing labor force of Kershaw County and northeast Columbia.
"Kershaw County is pleased KCMC has chosen Wateree Executive Park as their new home. This facility will set the tone for the rest of the development and more importantly provide better access to quality healthcare for the citizens of Elgin," stated Steve S. Kelly, Jr., chairman of Kershaw County Council.
Officials from Kershaw County Council, KCMC Board of Trustees, local physicians, and Elgin Town Council were in attendance at the groundbreaking.
