INVISTA Camden invests in technical lab expansion
CAMDEN, S.C. – May 3, 2010 – INVISTA is investing more than $5 million in new research and development assets at its nylon fiber manufacturing facility in Camden, S.C. Start-up is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.
“We are very pleased with the investment being made at Camden and the confidence it demonstrates in our site and its employees,” said Paul Liddle, INVISTA Camden site manager. “This investment will result in superior competencies at our site, such as new products and applications with enhanced capability, style, and performance; environmental benefits through innovative manufacturing processes; and reduced innovation cycle-time.”
In addition to the $5 million investment in enhanced assets, the expansion is anticipated to add 10 roles at the site. New products and applications will include carpet fibers with recycled and/or renewable content destined for residential and commercial flooring as well as area rugs, bath rugs, and automotive carpeting.

“The Camden site is near our customer base and has the ability to produce high volumes of bulk continuous filament yarn (textured yarn which is used to make carpet),” Stone said. “This makes the site a good fit for this investment.”
The investment will also enhance product line movements and boost rapid-cycle-time development. Across its business, INVISTA Performance Surfaces & Materials is investing $14 million in capital investments at its nylon facilities at Camden, S.C.; Dalton, Ga.; and Kingston, Ontario, Canada (which was previously announced).
