Parks honored for work with economic development efforts in South Carolina
9.27.2006
Haier America Plant Manager David Parks was honored as an Ambassador of Economic Development by Governor Mark Sanford as part of the 16th Annual Industry Appreciation Week.
Parks has been a key figure in convincing Haier's corporate executives of the advantages of expanding its Camden facility. With manufacturing operations all over the world, the competition for new products and capital investment within the company is fierce. Earlier this year, the company announced long range plans for adding 1,000 jobs and investing $150 million at its Kershaw County location, which would include adding manufacturing capacity as well as a research and development facility.
"We've been focused from day one on building a more business friendly climate here in South Carolina," said Governor Sanford. "We're glad to have this opportunity to thank the companies and industries that help us keep jobs and capital investment in this great state, and we're committed to keep advancing vital reforms - like we've done with income tax relief and tort reform - that will enhance their ability to do just that."
"The commitment and enthusiasm for South Carolina demonstrated by the folks in the private sector are key reasons why our economy is experiencing such success," said Secretary of Commerce Joe Taylor. "These business and community leaders are being recognized for dedicating many hours and personal resources to share the positives of doing business in our state. We appreciate all they do locally to enhance their communities and sell our state."
